Futsal2026 Winter Futsal Program for Grades 5-12

Futsal is a fast paced game based on soccer played indoors on basketball-sized courts with a size 4 ball that is smaller and much less bouncy than a soccer ball. Teams are 5-v-5 with 4 field players and a goalkeeper. Owing to the tight spaces, emphasis is placed on quick ball movements and close control of the ball. The goal of this program is to ensure maximum fun and maximum touches on the ball to improve ball control, movement and speed of play for the players participating.

For our Maynard Futsal Program, we will play 2 matches simultaneously in the Fowler Gym with the curtain separating the courts. On those smaller basketball courts, we’ll be playing 4-v-4 without goalkeepers and using small goals. Grades 5-7 players will be put into co-ed teams of up to 5-6 players with volunteer high school players and Maynard Youth Soccer (MYS) soccer coaches facilitating and coaching each session of warm-up and match play. Grades 8-12 players will also placed into co-ed teams of up to 6-8. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring even competition to maximize opportunity for skill development. Each session will include a period of warm-up Play and Practice with a final Play in the form of round-robin matches.

The Friends of Maynard Soccer has purchased the futsal balls, goals and pinnies for this program.

Dates: Eight Sundays in Jan-Mar 2026:  11, 18, 25 Jan; 01, 08, 22 Feb; 01 & 08 Mar. (No Futsal 15 Feb for February Break.)

Time: Time/grades still to be finalized but may resemble last year’s schedule here, as an example:

  • Grades 5-7: 8:00AM - 10:00AM
  • Grades 8-12: 10:00AM - 12:00PM

Where: Fowler School Gym

Cost: Registration Fees paid to the Recreation Commission via the MYS SportsEngine

  • Maynard Residents: $50
  • Non-Maynard Residents: $100
